Biodiversity (2022)

Sculpture

Joel Gailer and Electra McClellan-Greene

Biodiversity utilises sustainable and locally sourced material, and text, to instigate an educative agency into the materials and forms of the artwork. The specific text has been drawn from field-based poetry workshops with children, facilitated by Gunaikurnai artist, Electra Mclellan-Greene and myself. All sculptural elements are seeded with moss and lichen to create habitat for small invertebrates. The surface of the materials will be textured and perforated by tiny holes to encourage plant life to take hold. After an initial fertilising, the moss and lichen will source nutrients from insect and bird life.
